Annaberg-Lungötz

Discover the jewel of nature at the foot of the Bischofsmütze

The way is the goal. And the path leads through Annaberg-Lungötz. The hometown of the eight-time overall World Cup and double Olympic champion Marcel Hirscher, has a lot to offer not only in winter as part of the ski region Dachstein-West, but also in the alpine summer and farmer’s autumn:

“Sometimes it takes a look into the distance to get back to the point afterwards.” The striking peaks of the Gosaukamm ridge make hikers forget everyday life with a feeling of majestic strength and recharge their batteries. On the other hand, the valley also widens the view and perception. Let your soul dangle, listen to the silence of nature and let your thoughts run free.

Experience hiking vacation with all senses

Numerous huts invite you to stop at the alpine pastures. Taste the good, home-produced delicacies, which taste even better up here after hiking: crusty farmhouse bread, smoked bacon, cheese in many different variations and for dessert the fluffy Kaiserschmarrn…

The route of an award-winning long-distance hiking trail leads through Annaberg: With a total of 230 km and 18 stages, the SalzAlpenSteig offers numerous facets for experienced hikers and nature lovers seeking relaxation. The SalzAlpenTour in Annaberg offers an enormously panoramic round tour with magnificent views of the Tennengebirge and the Pongau Grass Mountains.

Experience the hiking summer

The Donnerkogelbahn cable car takes you comfortably and easily to the wonderful hiking world around the Gosaukamm and Zwieselalm with magnificent views all the way to the Dachstein, one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the Lammertal.

Where the hay figures are at home

Have you ever wondered what happens to the wonderful figures after each great HayART festival? Most of them are exhibited at the haymakers for a short time, but after that they often disappear into out-of-sight storage rooms due to lack of space. The Annaberg-Lungötz Tourism Association has created a new home for them with the “Hay Figure Trail” on the Reinischweg. In the eventful forest hiking trail, easily accessible on foot from the center of Annaberg, you will meet heroes from the animation hit “Madagascar” as well as a hay tractor, horses or mystical mythical creatures.

If you continue uphill from the hay figure path, you will reach the staircase path, popular because of its fitness also as “belly-legs-buttocks-path”, which is supposed to give “world champion” strength in the truest sense … At the highest point of the Kopfberg, “200 steps closer to heaven”, stands the beautiful statue of St. Mary, carved out of Swiss pine wood. Anna, the church’s patron saint. A true place of power in the middle of nature.

Gaudi Golf in Annaberg

The hay figure trail is also part of a new attraction in Annaberg: Gaudi golf is played around the Kopfberg. During a leisurely walk you will discover different stations, which are similar in structure to miniature golf. The natural environment from rural to alpine ambience flows into the stations. During fun and games you can enjoy the fantastic panorama of Gosaukamm with Bischofsmütze, the so-called Salzburg Dolomites, and the Tennengebirge in Lammertal. A wonderful entertainment for young and old.

Pilgrims are welcome

We are on our way. Pilgrimage, it is said, is “praying with the feet”. More and more people can appreciate this way of walking. It does not always have to have a spiritual reason: A few days out of the usual rut, focused on yourself and reduced or good conversations in a group – take a breath and move on – go in search and maybe find something.

Three pilgrimage paths lead through Annaberg-Lungötz: The St. Rupert Pilgrimage Path connects the places of activity of St. Rupert. Rupert, holy places and artistic testimonies of his veneration. Since the end of June 2008, the Leonhard Trail has connected the route between Salzburg Cathedral and the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard in Lungau. As one of the most important and beautiful long-distance hiking trails in Austria, the Arno Trail passes through the breathtaking landscapes of Salzburg over a distance of around 1200 kilometers. The tourist office Annaberg-Lungötz offers pilgrims and pilgrim groups favorable packages for overnight stays in the village, with breakfast already from 6.00 a.m. and a morning snack pack. A guided tour of the church can be organized upon request.
