Annaberg-Lungötz: at HeuART a whole place is upside down during the preparations!

HeuART 2016 goes this weekend in the already 16th round. What started in 2001 with a few hay figures, returns this year to the first venue – for the 5th time in Annaberg – Lungötz! Briefly explained: the Lammertaler HeuART festival is now held in 5 different places in the Lammertal alternately and when it is our place, it takes place once in Annaberg and the next time in Lungötz.

This year I have HeuART virtually on my doorstep! Speaking of which, I’ll take a look around to see what’s going on behind the doors in the whole town of Annaberg-Lungötz. I’ll be happy to take you along on my tour!

HEUreka: The Romans are crazy!

Hans Hirscher with hay Obelix

This is the often used phrase of Obelix, the “fattest” friend of Asterix, who possesses superhuman powers since he fell into the magic potion as a little baby. At the fire department Annaberg is not spun but tinkered and the proverbial door a is large garage door – and it must be so. Because her figure is really big! It all started tiny: “Our commander gave me this little figure and said that this should be the model for the hay figure,” laughs Hans Hirscher, who is responsible for the base frame, “I measured it millimeter by millimeter and prepared the Obelix 25 times as big.”

Pink and only recognizable in its basic elements, the comrades of the fire department and their hardworking wives are now tinkering with the outfit for the comic hero: “We just want to tinker with hay. It’s not so easy to get the stripes on his pants to look recognizable.” The hay artists have done a great job – not all hay is the same. With a lot of flair they used the different colors of the natural material in such a way that you notice the subtle differences on your clothes. All respect!

Hay TYPE once ungeHEUerlich!

We continue to the next barn – what awaits me there makes me shiver for a moment: An oversized spider hangs in its web! The tourism association Annaberg-Lungötz is sponsor of this figure, hay artist Anita Höll is already busy tinkering with the hardworking landlords: “This is to represent a network,” explains Martha Dullnig from the tourism office, “the entire Lammertal valley is interwoven in terms of tourism. The hiking trail network alone, which is now also linked by the hiking bus, shows how important networking is.” Well, that makes sense to me. A film crew from Bavaria is also interested in this unusual hay figure and films the hard-working hobbyists.

The traditional costume women are also already busy

Very nice … but I have to move on right away. On to the next traditional costume women in Annaberg. The chosen theme has a very strong connection to the village: “The pilgrimage to the Filzmooser Kindl takes place every 1st Sunday in October, whatever the weather“, reports Anni Rettenbacher. “According to oral tradition, the people of Annaberg and Lungötz were already going to the Filzmooser Kindl in the 19th century to offer their intentions and their thanks for answered prayers.” On average, about a hundred people take part in the pilgrimage. In 2006 there was a record with over 200 participants.

Wonderfully finely executed is the entire magnificent dress of the Filzmooser Kindl: “We were specially in Filzmoos and measured it exactly,” explains Anni, “also the festive dress and the halo for the figure were originally recreated by us.”

With umbrella, charm but no bowler hat!

In the next tenn I hear laughter – I’m here with the Trachtenfrauen Lungötz, who already have a lot of fun together here: “It has to be like this,” confirms chairwoman Regina Schwarzenbacher. “We work diligently on the hay figure, an umbrella that goes with the costume, however, there always has to be time for some fun in between.” Only one problem concerns them: “My ladies have forbidden me to always serve up so much after haymaking. After all, we all still have to fit into our garnishing wall on HayART Sunday“, she says with a twinkle in her eye. But at the moment they are still very sporty, all climb a haystack, “fall” almost thereby, hold on to the proverbial stalk – and we have a really nice photo for you!

This hat looks good on everyone!

The children are full of enthusiasm when making: “I pick the Hableng on the Huat!“What does that mean? We are here with the young musicians of the Trachtenmusikkapelle Lungötz. In addition to the actual figure, the Musifanten, the youngsters tinker under the guidance and help of hay artist Anita Höll and musicians on hats for the entire Musikkapelle! Hableng, i.e. the hay flowers, are carefully applied to each hat, which is further embellished with a perky flower made of hay. A really nice idea and the children are eager to do it!

Come by and see all the hay figures in the pageant!

Why the musifant looks so frightened? The funny secret behind it, other wonderful figures, decorated horse-drawn carriages and vintage tractors, delicacies from the GenussRegion Tennengau and genuine handicrafts, as well as much more, is what you’ll experience at the Lammertaler HeuART Festival in Annaberg-Lungötz on September 4! Have fun and good accommodation!
